CALENDAR HIGHLIGHTS

MAY

  • FOUNDATIONS OF ZEN PRACTICE CLASSES: Thursdays 5/7 & 5/14 7-9pm. The classes this time will focus on the indivisibility of the mind and body. There will be talks by our teacher Michael Kieran and Kathy Ratliffe followed by discussion and activities.
  • ZOOM DHARMA TALK: 5/9, 9am zazen, 9:30am Talk by Michael Kieran
  • ORIENTATION TO PRACTICE: Saturday 5/16, 9am – noon. See the Orientation to Practice page for details and how to register.
  • SAMU SUNDAY: Sunday 5/24, 9am – noon. A round of zazen then 2 hours of Samu (silent work practice) ending with a closing ceremony and lunch.
  • QUESTION AND RESPONSE: Wednesday 3/25, 7-9pm. Three rounds of zazen and dokusan replacing the last round with a chance to bring up any questions or issues to our teachers Michael Kieran and Kathy Ratliffe.
  • LEADERS MEETING: Sunday 5/31, 11:30am. After our regular zazen/dokusan program any zendo leaders doing Jikijitsu, Jisha or Ino will meet to learn/discuss elements of the forms of these positions. This will be led by our Teachers, Tantos and Jōzas.

JUNE

  • INTENSIVE PRACTICE PERIOD: 6/3 to 7/15. This “IPP” is a 6 week period where we significantly increase the intensity of our practice. There will be additional evening zazen, dokusan, sangha practice talks all leading up to a 7-day sesshin next month. The opening ceremony will be Wednesday evening  6/3, 7-9pm
  • SANGHA PRACTICE TALKS: Consecutive Thursdays, 6/4, 11, 18, 25. A sangha member will give and short talk and lead a discussion on a Zen practice topic that has been meaningful to them.
  • ZAZENKAI: Sunday 6/7, 8:30am – 4pm. Zazenkai is a day of zazen. We start with a full sutra service followed by zazen/dokusan up to lunch. Bring your own bag lunch. The afternoon will feature a Dharma Assembly (talk followed by interaction) by a Teacher or Tanto followed by more zazen/dokusan.
  • ZOOM DHARMA TALK (tentative): Saturday 6/13, 9am zazen, 9:30am Talk by TBA
