CALENDAR HIGHLIGHTS
MARCH
  • ZOOM TALK: Saturday 3/8, 9am zazen followed by a talk by Michael Kieran. This is for members and friends who live off island and are unable to attend in person.
  • SPRING SESSHIN (8 DAYS): Gather Friday evening 3/14 for sesshin 315-19 let by Kathy Ratliffe. This is open only to those signed up for the sesshin; however, you may sign up to attend the teisho each day at 2pm.
  • ORIENTATION TO PRACTICE: Saturday 3/22, 9am – noon. See the Orientation to Practice page for details and how to register.
  • QUESTION AND RESPONSE: Wednesday 3/26, 7-9pm. Three rounds of zazen and dokusan replacing the last round with a chance to bring any burning questions or issues. Our teachers will respond. Nothing is off-limits.
  • SAMU SUNDAY: Sunday 3/30, 9am – noon. A round of zazen then 2 hours of Samu (work practice) ending with a closing ceremony and lunch.
APRIL
  • HANAMATSURI: Sunday 4/6, 9 – 11am. This is a commenoration of the birth of Shakyamuni Buddha. We will have zazen and a flower ceremony. This is a kid friendly event.
  • FOUNDATIONS OF ZEN PRACTICE CLASS I: Thursday 4/10, 7 – 9pm These are a series of classes focusing on a fundamental aspect of our Zen practice. The specific subject is TBA.
  • ZOOM TALK: Saturday 4/12, 9am zazen followed by a talk by Michael Kieran. This is for members and friends who live off island and are unable to attend in person.
  • TEMPLE CLOSED FOR VIPASSANA RETREAT: Saturday and Sunday, 4/12 & 13.
  • HIKING ZAZENKAI: Sunday 4/13, 9am – 4pm. Trailhead is TBA. Please gather there at 9am sharp. Zazenkai is a day of zazen. In this case it will be mostly kinhin. Bring something to eat for lunch and something to sit on for outdoor seated zazen.
  • FOUNDATIONS OF ZEN PRACTICE CLASS II: Thursday 4/17, 7 – 9pm This is the second in a series of classes focusing on a fundamental aspect of our Zen practice. The specific subject is TBA.
  • ANNUAL MEETING: Sunday 4/20, 9-11 am zazen with the meeting to follow. We will be choosing our next Board of Directors as two of our members terms are up.
  • ZEN TEACHERS MEETING: Wednesday 4/23 – Sunday 4/27. Both our teachers Michael and Kathy will be at the meeting in California so there not be dokusan in their absence.

If you have not sat zazen with us before, we ask that you first attend an Orientation to Practice. (click here for details) For those with significant experience practicing Zen elsewhere we can arrange a short mini-orientation to our forms prior to a sitting.
