CALENDAR HIGHLIGHTS
MAY
- ZOOM TALK: Saturday 5/10, 9am zazen followed by a talk by Kathy Ratliffe. This is for members and friends who live off island and are unable to attend in person.
- ORIENTATION TO PRACTICE: Saturday 5/17, 9am – noon. See the Orientation to Practice page for details and how to register.
- HELE MALIE SESSHIN: This is a backpacking sesshin on the Big Island. Monday 5/19 is travel day and sesshin is 5/20-24.
- SAMU SUNDAY: Sunday 5/25, 9am – noon. A round of zazen then 2 hours of Samu (work practice) ending with a closing ceremony and lunch.
- QUESTION AND RESPONSE: Wednesday 5/28, 7-9pm. Three rounds of zazen and dokusan replacing the last round with a chance to bring any burning questions or issues. Our teachers will respond. Nothing is off-limits.
JUNE
- ZENDO LEADERS MEETING: Sunday 6/1 11:30 am. After our regular zazen and dokusan we will have a meeting of anyone who serves in zendo leadership Jikijitsu, Ino, or Jisha. Those who wish to do this in the future are most welcome as well.
- OPEN CEREMONY OF THE INTENSIVE PRACTICE PERIOD (IPP): Wednesday 6/4 7-9 pm. At the end of our zazen/dokusan evening we will open the IPP. This is a six week (6/4 through 7/16) period when we intensify our practice with more zazen/dokusan, zazenkai, practice talks, sesshin and more.
- PRACTICE TALKS: Every Thursday evening (6/5, 6/12, 6/19, 6/26) we will have a round of zazen followed by the Practice Talk/ discussion. A sangha member will give a short introduction to practice subject of their choice and lead a discussion around that topic.
- ZAZENKAI: Sunday 6/8, 9:30 am – 4:00 pm. This is an all day sitting with a Dharma Talk in the afternoon. You are encouraged to come for the whole thing, but coming to just the morning or afternoon is fine. Pack a bag lunch for the lunch break.
- ORIENTATION TO PRACTICE: Saturday 6/21, 9am – noon. See the Orientation to Practice page for details and how to register.

If you have not sat zazen with us before, we ask that you first attend an Orientation to Practice. (click here for details) For those with significant experience practicing Zen elsewhere we can arrange a short mini-orientation to our forms prior to a sitting.
