CALENDAR HIGHLIGHTS
JANUARY
  • ROHATSU SESSHIN (8 DAYS): Gather Thursday evening 1/2 for sesshin 1/3-10. This is one of the more rigorous sesshin of the year and honors Buddha’s enlightenment.
  • ORIENTATION TO PRACTICE: Saturday 1/18, 9am – noon. See the Orientation to Practice page for details and how to register.
  • WINTER SANGHA MEETING: Sunday 1/19, 9-11 am zazen and meeting.
  • ZOOM TALK: Saturday 1/25, 9am zazen followed by a talk by Clark Ratliffe. This is for members and friends who live off island and are unable to attend in person.
  • SAMU SUNDAY: Sunday 1/26, 9am – noon. A round of zazen then 2 hours of Samu (work practice) ending with a closing ceremony and lunch.
  • QUESTION AND RESPONSE: Wednesday 1/29, 7-9pm. Three rounds of zazen and dokusan replacing the last round with a chance to ask our teachers any question. Nothing is off-limits.
FEBRUARY
  • ZOOM TALK: Saturday 2/8, 9am zazen followed by a talk by Kathy Ratliffe. This is for members and friends who live off island and are unable to attend in person.
  • ZENDO LEADERS WORKSHOP: Sunday 2/9, 11:30am. After regular zazen and dokusan we will reconvene to discuss and practice elements of zendo leadership for Jikijitsu, Jisha and Ino positions. All leaders please attend.
  • ORIENTATION TO PRACTICE: Saturday 2/15, 9am – noon. See the Orientation to Practice page for details and how to register.
  • HUI PŪ MAI ZAZENKAI: Sunday 2/16, 8:30am – 4pm. In Hawaiian this means “coming together.” The morning follows the regular zazenkai schedule. However, after lunch (bring bag lunch) the program will be an activity designed to bring us together as a sangha.
  • SAMU SUNDAY: Sunday 2/23, 9am – noon. A round of zazen then 2 hours of Samu (work practice) ending with a closing ceremony and lunch.
  • QUESTION AND RESPONSE: Wednesday 2/26, 7-9pm. Three rounds of zazen and dokusan replacing the last round with a chance to bring and burning questions or issues. Our teachers will respond. Nothing is off-limits.
  • SANGHA PARTY: Friday 2/28, 6 – 8pm. Location TBA.
If you have not sat zazen with us before, we ask that you first attend an Orientation to Practice. (click here for details) For those with significant experience practicing Zen elsewhere we can arrange a short mini-orientation to our forms prior to a sitting.
